NORTH ARM TO
By J. Brock (FINN)
Nowadays people can travel between North Arm and Stanley by vehicle in a few hours. Before the road reached the settlement via Goose Green, it took the better part of two days. Over the weekend, on foot, Trudy Clarke and Anne Pitaluga proved that determination can get you from North Arm to Stanley in just 32 hours.
The pair began their annual walk in aod ofn the Falkland Islands Memorial chapel at Pangbourne and the ’82 Trust at midday on Friday. They had walked all night on Friday and fortunately made good time. On Saturday night at 1930 they completed their 100-mile walk. H. E. the Governor Mr. Howard Pearce and First Secretary, Harriet Hall as well as friends and family were at the 1982 War memorial to greet the intrepid walkers.
Even last year’s snow drifts did not deter Trudy and Anne from planning a similar event this year. Trudy walks for the two charities every year at this time because it is the nearest weekend to Liberation Day, which is traditionally celebrated on June 14th.
It isn’t known yet how much money the ladies raised for the two charities.
