MOTHERS AND CARERS TODDLE FOR RUG-RATS NURSERY
By J. Brock (FINN)
On Saturday 9 August a group of working mothers organised a Toddle in aid of Rug-Rats Nursery. At 1000 approximately 20 mothers and their children, many in prams, gathered at the West Store and began their walk to the Narrows Bar a public house where there are facilities for children. Along the way, people collected money so that the nursery could remain open and purchase toys, etc. for their charges.
Childcare for working parents has been difficult to provide in the Falklands because the businesses that have thus far been set up have had a difficult time financially and some have had to close. Recently there was a meeting of concerned parents where this problem and some alternatives were discussed. A facility for such a service has been identified and the outcome of queries into the use of the building are on-going.
