PUNTA ARENAS:
Two return tickets for Punta Arenas will be up for grabs soon. This will be just one of many raffle prizes. The Cancer Support and Awareness Trust is organising a raffle and Tea Party. Alison Ward (AW) from the Charity:
AW: We only have a fund-raiser every two years so we decided so this is the year that we would normally fund-raise. And this year we thought we would try something different and have a tea party in the Parish Hall, combined with a grand raffle.
CG: What sorts of prizes can people expect?
AW: We’ve been very lucky with prizes. We are very grateful to Jenny Forrest at ITT and LanChile because they have given us two return flights to Punta Arenas, which is a marvellous prize. We’ve also got various other prizes from generous donors including Falkland Islands Tours and Travel, who have offered us a family ticket to go up to MPA and back to either go on the Tri-star or the LanChile flight. We’ve got sweatshirts, jumpers, cakes, books, gift vouchers, lots of things.
CG: Tell me about this giant cake that the Governor’s going to be cutting during the day.
AW: The Military very generously have made a giant fruit cake, Marzipan iced. It’s very large and we thought it would be very nice if the Governor would come along cut the cake for us and he agreed to it. We will be selling slices of that at the tea party.
CG: And, if anyone wants to know any more, what should they do?
AW: They can contact Alex Sanders, or myself, or Theresa Lang or any of the other trustees. The raffle tickets are available as of today and they are in books of six for £5.00 or a pound each. So, if you spend £5.00 you get a free ticket. The Tea Party is happening from 1500 to 1700 at the Parish Hall, with lots of other cakes that have been donated by bakers around the town and come along and spend your money.
CG: Where can people get tickets from?
AW: The usual outlets. We’ve got Essentials at the Hospital and Speedwell Store, the Gift Shop, Falkland Farmers, the Co-op and Kelper Stores. If anyone wants tickets, they can always ring any of the trustees and we can arrange for tickets to come to you.
CG: The event in the Parish Hall is being held on the 31st of May. And, tickets are also available from Reception here at FIBS.
POD:
The Pod, which for the last few years has been able to offer accommodation and wildlife tours is closing down on the 5th of June. At the moment, they will still be opening for somewhere to stay, lunches and snacks but due to ill health, Patrick will be unable to take people out on the Cape Dolphin Wildlife tour. They ask that if anyone has gift vouchers for the Pod, to get in touch as soon as possible to either arrange accommodation on the next couple of weeks or to return the vouchers for a full cash refund. Pat and Patrick have thanked all their customers for their continued support and say they hope to reopen sometime in the future.
