By J. Brock (FINN)
The Argentine Foreign Minister has met his UK counterpart today. This is Mr. Carlos Ruckauf’s first official visit to London. Jack Straw’s quote follows:
"I was delighted to welcome Dr. Ruckauf on his first official visit to the UK. During our meeting, we had the opportunity to discuss a number of international issues including the war against terrorism. Both Dr. Ruckauf and I acknowledged the excellent relations between the UK and Argentina. I am pleased to announce the decision for annual talks to take place at a senior level between the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The talks will help us to develop the warm relations enjoyed between our two countries and will focus on key topics on the international agenda where the UK and Argentina share mutual interests.
I expressed the UK’s support for a successful outcome to Argentina’s negotiations with the International Monetary Fund. I also raised the concerns of UK investors in Argentina."
Missing from this statement was the direct reference to sovereignty over the Falkland Islands.
