By J. Brock (FINN)
It is with profound sadness that FINN heard over FIRS that Miss Vivienne Perkins passed away at the King Edward memorial Hospital in Stanley on the morning of Monday, 14 April 2014.
Miss Perkins came to the Falklands in the early 1960s after service as an auxiliary Royal Navy during WWII. She worked at the Falkland Islands Company for several decades in the Accounts Department and occasionally after retirement she worked on an ad-hoc basis for the FIC.
During her time in the Falklands Miss Perkins was a dedicated member of Christ Church Cathedral and sang in the choir. With a beautifully trained voice she managed to sing solo parts in Christmas celebrations as well as other seasonal functions at the Cathedral. She also helped to organise fund raising events for the Cathedral and kept the accounts.
After retirement Miss Perkins worked as a Committee Member for the Charity Shop, Bargains Galore and gave generous support for the Seamens Mission. In October 2011 she received the Queens Certificate and Badge of Honour at Government House for her charitable work.
The late Canon Gervase (Gerry) Murphy remembered Miss Perkins in her role at the Darts Club and proudly showed off a set of darts given to him by Miss Perkins.
As yet there is no news as to when Miss Perkins funeral will be. She is a hard act to follow and will be very much missed by her family in the UK and all in the Falklands who had the honour of knowing her.
Miss Perkins funeral will be on Friday, 25 April 2014 at 1400hrs at Christ Church Cathedral in Stanley.
