A new Attorney General, Mr Peter Judge QC, has taken over the post from Mr Mark Lewis, who has completed his contract and left the Falklands. He told the media on Tuesday that he had come to the Falklands from Newcastle Upon Tyne, where he practiced as a commercial lawyer and focused on the North-East Regional Development Agency. Most recently he worked with the first Independent Secretary of Durham University who ran a wide ranging review of its government.
He took to working in the Falklands straight away and applied for the post of Attorney General as he has experience with organizations with approximately the same as the Falkland Islands Government. Mr Judge considers his experience in regional commercial matters an asset to the post and will ride the learning curve here in areas of oil development as well as other commercial enterprises. The focus is commercial and governmental business projects. Mr Judge has a Masters Degree in International law which should be very useful here for him the International law aspect is extremely interesting.
Finding Falkland Islanders ambitious, open minded and exploratory and eager to take up the opportunities relevant to the budding hydrocarbons industry in the Falklands, he is delighted to be part of exciting times ahead for the Falklands.
Later in the year he will be joined by his wife and daughter and new baby, yet to be born.
