At 2240hrs LMT Keith Padgett the Returning Officer announced that of the 1519 regestered voters who cast a ballot,1513 voted YES and 3 voted NO. There were 4 not yes votes and one spoiled ballot paper.
Brad Smith of the Observer Corp announced that the vote was free and fair and said it was a reflection of the free will and spitit of the Falkland Islanders and that it was executed in accordance with international standards and international laws. He paid tribute to the Registrar General who made every possible effort to ensure that all people who could vote cast a vote.
Mr Juan Heano translated the announcement into Spanish.
