The Hon Mr Keith Biles, Speaker of the House at the Falklands Legislative Assembly welcomed all to the conference, mentioning that there were three House Speakers in the Audience and remembering that this was the last CPA Regional conference held in the Falklands was in 2004.
Excellent music from the FICS and Infant/Junior School Choruses as well as musicians under the direction of Mrs Shirley Adams-Leach, MBE provided an outstanding atmosphere at the conference. The singers performed Drop in the Ocean and a Falklands 30 Song composed by the then Year 6.
In his words of welcome, the Hon Mr Dick Sawle said that two generations of Falkland Islanders had lived here before Tierra del Fuego was even established, thus refuting the idea the Falklands were part of fire land. He went on to say that sovereignty was determined, accepted and respected by the people.
FICS instrumentalists entertained everyone with The Song of the Falklands, by Rock Berntsen and Tumbledown, by Scots Guards Band Master, Jimmy Riddle. Their final piece was about Volunteer Beach Borough Battle of lament for the Homeless Penguin, presumably by the Brewery Boys.
Baroness Scotland gave a speech about Self-Determination and its role in Self Governance and Devolution followed by an extensive Q & A session. Margaret Mitchell MSP chaired the session with Margaret Neal (Scotland) acting as secretary.
After Lunch, Professor Lord Michael Keating outlined several arguments about self-determination. This was followed by a 45 Minute Q & A session.
