FIG has commissioned Regeneris Consulting to lead a study exploring the possible impacts of the oil and gas sector on the economy and society of the Islands over the next 20 years. As part of the study, Stephen Nicol and Stuart Younger from Regeneris are speaking to a range of people across the Islands to understand Islanders perspectives, hopes and concerns about the oil sector and its impact.
Subsequently Regeneris will hold four open forum meetings in January 2013 to present the ways in which the oil and gas sector may impact on the Islands in the future and to discuss these with Islanders. Please feel free to drop in to any of the meetings, which will take place in:
Stanley Saturday 26th January, 6pm at the Narrows Bar
Fox Bay Monday 28th January, 7pm at the Southern Cross Social Club
Goose Green Wednesday 30th January, 7pm at Goose Green Club
Hope Cottage Wednesday 30th January, 7pm at Hope Cottage Farm
Refreshments will be provided at all of the meetings.
Regeneris will also invite people to enrol for one of two focus groups in Stanley, to facilitate a more detailed discussion amongst a smaller group of Falkland Islanders about the impacts of oil and gas; and the way that the Falklands might need to develop. Food and drinks will be provided.
The Focus Group for 16-25 Age Group meets Tuesday 29th January, 6pm and the Focus Group for 25+ Age Group meets Thursday 31st January, 6pm.
Those wanting to register to attend a focus group can contact Ruth Hurd at Regeneris Consulting by emailing r.hurd@regeneris.co.uk by Monday 21st January, and providing name, age, gender and telephone number.
