Argentine Walkout of IAP Could be an Own Goal

Argentine Walkout of IAP Could be an Own Goal

An Editorial by J. Brock (FINN)

Argentine representatives have walked out of their membership of the International Association of Prosecutors, IAP because the UN has given the Government of the Falkland Islands full membership.

As the only global non-governmental organisation of prosecutors, IAP was established by the United Nations in 1995 to help thwart rapid growth in transnational crime like drug trafficking, money laundering and fraud. The organisation includes about 200,000 members from over 120 states; and the Falkland Islands Government was recently admitted.

FINN surmises that Argentina is thumbing their nose at the UN; yet they want the organisation to resolve their home-made sovereignty dispute. Its possible that this could become an own goal for Argentina.
