CATHEDRAL CLOCK REMOVED FOR REPAIR AND RENOVATION By J. Brock (FINN)

An operation to bring down the clock at Christ Church Cathedral took place on Monday, 08 March 2010 beginning at 0830hrs. It took over three hours to ser up AB sailing ropes and to assemble the safety gear needed to do the job. With helmet, radio headphone and harness in place major Peter Biggs, OC of the Falkland Islands Defence Force ascended the tower and began to remove the clock-face’s hands.

After removing the hands a chain was passed through the hole in the clock-face where the hands once rested. After carefully securing the chain the clock-face was prised out and lowered, along with Peter Biggs, to the ground.

A small gathering had sat on the Cathedral steps outside the safety area to watch the operation. When Maj. Biggs was on the ground safely they cheered.
