TRISTAN:  WOMEN REJECT LATEST PAY OFFER

Part time workers at Tristan da Cunha’s lobster factory are still out on strike, with the latest offer made to them by the Company Rep at 1100 on Monday being rejected by them all.  The women all went home.

Monday was a fishing day and 4,414 KG of lobster were landed but placed into holding tanks until the women’s pay demands can be settled.

POLICE NEWS:

At 0031 on Saturday the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of a disturbance outside Michelle’s Café.  Officers attended and one person was detained overnight.

At 1630 on Saturday the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of damage to a fence on Moody Street.

At 1700 on Saturday the Royal Falkland Islands Police received a report of two people tampering with a vehicle on Hebe Street.  Officers attended and gave a warning to two people.

VEHICLE OFF ROAD POLICY

The Royal Falkland Islands Police wish to notify the general public, in particular all vehicle owners, that the information concerning the introduction of “Vehicle Off Road Notification”, first broadcast on FIRS on 01 September 2005 and published in Penguin News on 09 September 2005, has been withdrawn in its entirety.  The Chief Police Officer apologises for any inconvenience that the release of this information may have caused.

The trial of Brian John Williams began at 1000 on Monday, 26 September 2005and adjourned until 1400 when arguments regarding evidence were heard.  The case was adjourned until 1000 on Tuesday, 27 September 2005 at 1000.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Arriving on Saturday, 24 September2005 was Communications Consultant, Dr, Chris Doyle, who will be in the Falklands until Saturday, 01 October.

Arriving on Wednesday is Ian Duncan from Desire Petroleum.  Already in the Falklands are John Armstrong and Patrick Bird from FOGL.

It is notified for general information that Monday, 03 October 2005 is Peat Cutting Monday and that all Government Departments other than those providing essential services will be closed.

Could all farmers save all fresh dead lambs they find and keep them in the freezer.  Then, when visiting Stanley, could they deliver them to the Veterinary Section of the Department of Agriculture.  A couple of lambs are needed for demonstration purposes at a lambing course to be held in the middle of October.

Notice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting of the Falkland Islands Overseas Games Association will take place on Tuesday, 25 October 2005 in the Geography Room of the Falkland Islands Community School at 1700.
